Oilers demolish the Calgary Royals

The Okotoks Oilers improved their away record this year to 5-1 as they crushed the Calgary Royals 9-2 at the Father David Bauer Arena in Calgary on Tuesday night.

The Oilers were coming off a five day break in their schedule and they showed the Royals they were ready to play from the opening whistle.

The first period saw the Oilers get the only goal, a PP goal by Tyler Matthews, his first of the year from Cody Dion. The shots on goal flattered the Royals 8-8. Score after 1 was Oilers 1, Royals 0.

The second period saw the Oilers pour on the pressure by outshooting the Calgary team 22-8 and outscoring the Royals 3-2 on all even strength goals. Kyle Reynolds with his first, Cody Dion with his second of the season and Chris Duszynski with his third of the year tallied for the Oilers in a period where the Oilers kept attacking and showed good speed. Score after two, Oilers 4 Royals 2.

The Oilers continued the onslaught in the third with 5 straight goals starting with Corbin Knight's 9th goal of the season followed by Derek Rodwell's 6 goal of the year with a PP goal. Two more goals by Tyler Matthews within 23 seconds of each other gives him the hat trick. Andrew Singerhouse closed out the scoring with his 3rd of the year. Final shots on goal were Oilers 43, Royals 20 and the final score was 9-2. Oilers were 2 for 11 on the powerplay and the Royals were 1 for 9.

The Okotoks star of the game was Chris Duszynski with 1 goal and 3 assists. Oilers goaltender Steve Papciak (3-0) gets the win.

So the Okotoks Oilers head up to Sherwood Park for the AJHL Showcase this Thursday and Friday. Two games, one away (Kodiaks) and one home (Canucks) to show the many scouts in attendance what great players are in this league.
